Veer Munshi
Was born in Srinagar, Kashmir (1955), He acquired his BA from Kashmir University (1976) and BFA (Painting) from M.S.U Baroda (1981).

Veer Munshi, is one of the few painters in India who is able to transform his experiences in Kashmir into the language of painting. He consistently uses his art to reflect his anguish at the situation in his home state, his pain and struggle spilling over onto his canvases. Making a human rights statement rather than a political one, he has constantly sought to highlight the turmoil that comes with separation from his heritage. He is also convinced that art, because of its universal nature, can play a significant role in the resolution of the Kashmir situation. Munshi's canvases present images that are intriguing. They cross average notions of reality and pass into a surreal realm. He works in oils and sometimes sketches in charcoal.

Veer Munshi has been featured in films and publications such as ‘Veer Munshi’, a film by K. Bikram Singh in 2003. He has also participated in several solo shows, group exhibitions, such as the 2009 'Shrapnel: The Chamber + Pandit Houses', Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai ; 2008 Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai ; 2006 Art Alive Gallery at India Habitat Center, New Delhi. He has also been a part of several international art camps and workshops, and has won numerous awards such as the National Award from L K Academy Minister of Culture Government of India New Delhi in 2002, and the DIPLOMA Laureate from St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Design in 2012 as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Award for Painting in 2001.

Veer Munshi presently lives and works in Delhi.
