Phalguni Samanta

Is a promising young artist who is not only technically proficient but also has a unique visual aesthetics. As an artist working in the ceramics medium Phalguni traverses both the utility aspect and the sculptural with equal ease. He takes inspiration from objects around him, and uses this with a tongue in cheek humour in his pieces, making tea pots into water tanks or purses and turning his human forms into grotesque hollow, empty vessels. The macabre and the mundane are both kneaded into his expression.
Phalguni has received the National Scholarship of the Govt. of India, he has participated in a workshop on traditional process of ceramic firing in Shilpakorn University, Thailand in January,2013. He has also attended a workshop in Ceramics at TVS Academy School at Bangalore, 2011.
