ARTIST

Atanu Mukherjee

Is a young artist based out of Santiniketan, West Bengal.
He has always been fascinated by the human body or more specifically the face, which provides him with the simplest as well as the most intriguing trope through which he addresses the formal aspects of his work. Drawing also plays a vital role in his practice. Atanu feels that the most fascinating challenge that he sets for himself as an artist, is to come to a fine orchestration between a judicial simplicity and a flexible automatism. The question of expression is also essential to his work. Atanu tries to avoid stereotypes. Questions of anxiety and dislocation, migration and alienation are addressed in his works through the structure and process which reconstruct the social and existential dilemma that these faces mirror.

Atanu Mukherjee has done his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. He is a recipient of the National Scholarship in the field of Visual Art (Painting) for 2003-2005, from Govt. of India, Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
