Swapnesh Chowdhury

Born 1944 graduated from Govt. College of Art & Craft in 1967. He later received the Junior Fellowship of the Govt. of India and came to study Mural under professor K G Subramanian in Santiniketan.
His childhood coincides with a difficult and painful part of Indian history; partition after independence. Swapnesh had to leave his beloved Sylhet and this pain has forever remained etched in his psyche and affected his artworks. Much later Swapnesh came to study art in the Kolkata. He was also curator of the Cellular Jail Museum in Andaman Island for a long duration. It is here that his childhood memories and the tribal aboriginal culture and nature of Andaman Islands evoked a new variation in his language.
