Nehal Rachh

Was introduced to art through a graduation in Graphic Design that she did at the M.S.University, Baroda. As an Applied Art student, pottery was an optional subject done fleetingly as an elective. Yet, clay lured her. She says that the desire to play with a medium that allowed her to touch, feel, mould and model, appealed to her senses and gradually remained alongside the graphic design base.
Nehal spent eight months experimenting at the Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahemdabad, while waiting for a seat at Golden Bridge Pottery. In 1997, she joined Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith, to do their intensive course in (wheel thrown) functional ware production at Pondicherry. Nehal claims that the vastness of the universe overwhelms her; and an attempt to capture a glimpse of it, drives her to create.
Nehal has done several Residencies including The Mangrove Ceramic Studio, Bangalore 2008 / Rufford Ceramic Centre, Nottingham (U.K.) 2003 / VAAS, International art studio and Gallery (France) 2000. She has several solo shows to her credit such as Gallery Threshold, New Delhi 2009 & 2012 / Faculty of Fine arts, Baroda 2010 / Nazar art Gallery, Baroda 2002.
She has also been a part of several group shows including ‘Ex-tensions’, Site art gallery , Baroda / Shimeesha group show, Baroda / Bharat Bhavan 31st anniversary show, Bhopal / ASNA clay triennial, Karachi, Pakistan / ‘Tiles Forever’, IHC, New Delhi / “The Big Picture”, Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore /
