ARTIST

Prashant Phirangi

Born in Karnataka 1983 he did his education from Gulbarga, Karnataka & Kala Bhavana Santiniketan, where he later returned as part of the graphic department faculty.
As a young artist printmaker, Prashant like many of his contemporaries faces a challenge as how to breathe new life into a medium which is struggling to keep pace with the fast changing digital print world. And perhaps with clever reintroduction and emphasis on techniques of a bygone era with contemporary subject matter, Prashant may just have found the answer.
The language, which he uses, is a dialogue between the artist and the surface. He is experimenting with processes such as cyanotype & van dyke brown process. These processes invented around 1842 involve certain chemicals coated directly on paper in a dark room and kept for drying, later on the desired image (negative) is placed on the coated paper and exposed to sun light or UV-light.

Prashant Phirangi has participated in exhibitions like, XIVth Biennale International-France-09, Birla academy of art-Kolkata, 34th & 35th. L.K.A. Bengaluru, Lokmanya Tilak –Pune, ’Salute’ by Cisfa-Nagpur, Kyoto Saga-University organized by Visva-Bharti, Santiniketan -06. He has received Vasudev Arnavaz scholarship-07 & 08. His works can be found in many collections like, Rotary club-U.K, Bharat Bhavan Bhopal, K.S.U-Japan, Gallery-7-Mumbai, and many private collections in India and abroad.
